HEALTH IS PRIMARY! CUTS KILL!
Over $1 trillion in federal health funding cuts (passed in the “Big Beautiful Bill”) are set to take effect after November's midterm elections. These massive cuts put over 14 million people at risk of losing healthcare, as well as threatening local economies, jobs, medical research, and public health systems.
New Haven Rising, UNITE HERE, AFT CT, CT for All, AAUP Yale, Anchor Health Initiative, CARE, CCAG, CHCA Health Care Workers, Equality Connecticut, HUSKY For Immigrants, Indivisible Greater Westville, New Haven Federation of Teachers, New Haven Immigrants Coalition, New Haven People’s Center, New Haven Pride Center, SEIU State Council, SEIU 1199ne, Teamsters Local 443, Trans Haven, Western CT Area Labor Federation, and more will host a vigil to raise awareness of health care cuts and call on federal, state, and local leaders to protect affordable, accessible health care; strengthen biomedical research and public health systems; and stand up for our most vulnerable communities.
We must stop these cuts that will widen existing health disparities - especially among LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities1. We are witnessing the largest redistributions of resources from working people to the wealthy in modern U.S. history. Congress must use every tool available to protect programs that ensure dignity, health, and safety for all, especially those most at risk.
"With every budget cut there is a person who won't get the care they need, a family that won't get the warning they deserve, and a community that’s left to face a health crisis alone. This is the moment to make your voice heard.” - Cleve Jones
